Room 13 is an art studio for kids and run by kids. It not only develops their creative skills, but also teaches them the organizational and leadership skills it takes to run an arts program. Room 13 turns kids who wouldn’t ordinarily get the opportunity to participate in art programs into painters, sculptors, photographers and entrepreneurs. In Canada, the Room 13 program is hosted at the Harbourfront Community Centre in Toronto. Two times a week, the program welcomes 21 kids to paint, sculpt, and get dirty. And since creative genius doesn't happen on an empty stomach, our kids also get a healthy snack when they come in for the program.
While the kids truly run the program, Artist-in-Residence Michael Brown advises them and helps them grow as artists and as people. It’s great.
